We’re really pleased that the next stage of the Town Quay Park improvement plan, developed in consultation with FTQP members and the Council’s Parks’ team, has been given the go ahead. This affects the High St end of the park and includes: restoring the Huguenot bed next to Canute’s Palace by raising it within a low wall and adding some seating; reshaping the square bed opposite; resurfacing the tarmac area with green rubber crumb, on which will be painted a black mizmaze/labyrinth path. This new design will give more of an ‘arena’ feel and we hope will encourage more performance in the park. The mizmaze walk will provide a tranquil meditative experience for those who choose to walk it quietly, as well as a fun path for children to play on (adults too!). Dates are yet to be agreed but the work will be carried out in the next 12 months.
If you’d like to know more:
A mizmaze is technically a labyrinth design cut into turf – with 2 of the best known UK historic mizmazes being here in Hampshire – Breamore & St Catherines Hill, Winchester – you can see more info on mizmazes on Wikipedia There ’s also general info at the Labyrinth Society.
