FTQP are proud to host and maintain this fine Memorial to the men that returned to Southampton from Japanese PoW camps after WW2 – and indeed to those who did not make it back.
It has now become a tradition that the Lord Mayor of Southampton attends a commemoration in Town Quay Park to those men, on the anniversary of the return of one of them, Bob Hucklesby, on the SS Corfu on 18 November 1945.
Bob was a driving force behind the formation of the Far East Prisoners of War association, fundraising for the Memorial and the annual commemoration, which he always attended, until his death aged 100.
