Disabled access almost complete

The wheelchair friendly access from French Street to the park is almost complete and ready for use. Southampton City Council workers have spent two weeks getting the ground prepared, building the foundations and putting in the flat surface.

It is hoped that more people who use wheelchairs or who have children in pushchairs will be able to access the park from French Street, and there will be an easier passage through to the High Street end of the park.

It will be particularly useful for park users who wish to leave their cars in the parking bays at the bottom of French Street, as it will avoid walking to the bottom of the road, along Porters Lane and up the steps.

The previous steps and paving stones had to be removed and the foundations dug and relaid, and so the work took two weeks.
